ODEON PREMIERE'S "CRICKET WHITES"

July 2008

Sunday 13th July 2008 saw the premiere of "Cricket Whites" at the Odeon Cinema, Esher, Surrey, England. The 40 minute film of the Foundation's partnership with Border Village Cricket Board and Claygate Cricket Club, was based on the Feb 2008 Tour of the Eastern Cape by the Surrey side. Integrated within this tour were visits to townships, the Steve Biko Foundation, key historical and political landmarks in South African history as part of a wider community development theme that ran throughout the tour.

The film was made by 'Proper Telly', produced by Ken Snowdon and features interviews with Makhaya Ntini, Ntsiki Biko and the former Sussex player, Greg Hayes. The partnership itself resulted in R75,000.00 raised for over 300 items of cricket equipment, including 57 cricket bats, for schools and township cricket development in the region. Further details on the tour can be seen in the news story "Township cricket for Surrey side".
