DESMOND TUTU HONOURS DWF AT No.10

July 2009

Sarah Brown hosted a function at No.10 Downing Street with Archbishop Desmond Tutu as guest speaker in honour of the Donald Woods Foundation. Archbishop Tutu paid particular tribute to DWF's work in HIV and with orphans and vulnerable children in the rural Eastern Cape. Around 70 people with links to development work in Africa were in attendance at a function which also featured a brief presentation of the Foundation's work.

Elton John Aids Foundation Director, Anne Aslett was among the speakers who had visited the programme recently and spoke of the tremendous progress of the HIV programme in a short space of time with several clinics recently built and over 1000 people now being tested every month.

Others who attended included Peter Hain MP and DWF HIV Programme Manager, Lynne Wilkinson. The Foundation now aims to build on this success and expand its health programme to various parts of the Eastern Cape and launch its 100 Schools Programme in early 2010.
