HOBENI LEAGUE REACHES CLIMAXDecember 2009"Eleven Attackers" rose to claim the spoils as winners of the inaugural play-off final of the Hobeni League for 2009. The result after 90 minutes was a 1 - 0 victory with a late goal in the second half, playing at their home ground at Lower Manganyela. The league was established in partnership between the Donald Woods Foundation and the communities in and around Hobeni, with eleven teams contesting the trophy in its first season. The league was contested by the following teams: "Hungry Lion" and "Hobeni Young Stars" from Hobeni; "Cwebe Hotspurs", "Dinonyana" and "Tornado" from Geya; "Thunzini Peace Lovers" from Thunzini; "Hard Workers" from eLalini; "Freedom Fighters" and "Kunene Young Stars" from eKunene; "Cwebe Stars" from Cwebe; and "Eleven Attackers" from Lower Manganyela. Around a thousand people were present when the Foundation provided much needed equipment for the start-up of the league. This included dozens of match-balls, several team strips, seven sets of goal posts as a community-building initiative, but also to promote HIV testing among young men. See All News Stories |
